Enjoy Today

Last evening Jim and I built a fire in the fireplace, had a nice warm dinner of steak and baked potatoes, and watched a DVD of an old classic Donny and Marie Christmas show. It was so different back then. The program was centered around the birth of Christ and family and they weren't afraid to talk about it. I bought it (see right hand column) from the Amazon.com site last year and it's always a delight to watch.

Today Jim and I are going to be busy with Christmas preparations. I have a list for him to work on and I'll be busy cleaning and baking. I want to make sugar cookies, freeze, and then frost them a couple of days before the BIG EVENT.

There is still so much to do and so much baking to finish, but I'm trying to live in the moment and enjoy every little thing I do for my family. We just never know what life will bring next, so it's important to appreciate the people and blessings we have in our life at this moment.

Well, I better get busy! Not a minute to waste! Merry Christmas to all and enjoy TODAY!!!

  1. I'm living in the moment today and leaving the baking, etc behind. Am off to Dollywood with son and family to enjoy some Christmas shows and see the millions of lights in the park. I will be wearing my new scarf I won and it will be most welcome in the cold air. LOL

  4. Well, we have just about everything done. Two more presents to wrap but they have not arrived yet. At least no last minute rush this year.

  10. I hadn't thought about making and freezing my cookies--maybe I'll take your lead and do it Monday! Relaxing all day and doing some reading. Enjoy your evening!

  11. Angie- I'm glad you like the idea. The only way I can get all the baking done is to freeze things. I entered a baking contest once where contestants were ask to make nine or more kinds of cookies and fill a decorated gallon jar with them. I baked and froze them until the day of the contest and won 1st prize. Blessings.

  13. I used to love Donnie and Marie...good idea that you have of mking cookies in advance. I saw a show by Real Simple and they told how you should plan out your holiday preparations in advance so you have more time to enjoy the holidays.

    Hope all is going well.

Thank you for putting this thought into words today, they're very fitting for my life right now.

  15. Sonya- I tend to overdo it at Christmas, cooking and baking for the family, but I've found that's where all the memories start.

  19. With our Mustang club party cancelled because of the projected weather which didn't happen, I decided to make some ornaments so my mess is back out. I did bake Zuchinni bread and put one in the freezer or it would be gone like the other one. I am going to bake sugar cookies tomorrow and freeze them. What a great suggestion. Miss a fireplace. We had one when we lived in Spokane. I was relaxed today and living in my moment.

  20. I just got all my shopping done today, so hopefully now I can enjoy the rest of the season without that worry. I actually love shopping for Christmas presents - so much fun to find just the right thing for people.

I am saddened by how much we have taken Christ out of Christmas - and how politically incorrect it is to say Merry Christmas now.

  21. Lea- Sounds like you had a busy, but relaxing day....and lived in the moment. Enjoy making those cookies tomorrow!

  22. Melissa- How nice to have all the shopping done. I'm almost finished, too.

We are having snow as I write this, so tomorrow is going to be another day of indoor holiday cheer here at our house.

I'm going to say Merry Christmas this year whenever I can and I know you will, too.
