Get Caught Reading Month

The month of May is "Get Caught Reading Month" .... included below is a statement from the American Association of Publishers.

About Get Caught Reading

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2009, Get Caught Reading is a nationwide public service campaign to promote the joy of reading.

Through celebrity involvement, the campaign carries the message that reading inspires, educates, empowers, entertains, touches the soul, sparks the imagination and opens the door to a world of opportunities and rewards. A Spanish language version Aja! Leyendo! brings the campaign to the Latino community as well.

I'm almost finished with Small Favor by Jim Butcher, and have a pile of TBR books waiting in the wings. I just have to choose which will be next. :)

Coincidentally, over at my blog, I am participating in a 'Reading Challenge' called Once Upon a Time III, which involves reading and talking about books that fit in the categories laid out by the challenge. I've also just done two entries talking about some of the problems your local bookstore may be facing trying to compete with online bookstores, interesting solutions, and why I hope they never disappear.

Astaryth- I'll stop by your place and read your post right now. Thanks for letting us know.

Carol- I love it when we talk about books here, because it gives my readers such a wide variety to explore.

I haven't read a good book for ages! I blog too much and read so many blogs that I don't give myself time to read books. Most of my books are paranormal fact so I really need to get some light hearted fiction. I'm hoping that won't be the case when my own book is published!!

CJ- I can relate with what you say. I spend alot of time reading blogs, too. I'm trying to cut out more time for my first love, which is reading.

Your blog is fascinating.

I'm reading a memoir, Great Pretenders - My Strange Love Affair with 50s Pop Music. The author is exploring her parent's life and marriage through the 50s music they listened to, and at the same time, learning something of her own coming of age. I didn't think I'd go for it at first, but her voice drew me right in.

Joanne- Very interesting. I'll check that one out. So many books, so little time! Oh my!!!!

As a retired English tteacher and an avid reader, I am embarrassed to say I have been spending my time reading blogs!

Will that settle down? Talk about a new hobby gone wild!

Right now I am reading The Power of Praise and Worship by Terry Law. It is about his life and how praise and worship has worked for him when his first wife was killed in an auto accident while he was ministering in England. Spend alot of time reading blogs too but that is OK. Keeps me in touch with other people.

I'm reading The Believers by Zoe Heller and a book called Repetition which is about reincarnation.

Lea- I think you would agree that blogging forms a worldwide sisterhood of support. It's great.

Nancy- I haven't read the ones you mention, but they sound interesting. Thanks!

Jane Eyre was one of my favorites, and I don't tire of it.

Lately, I've been reading a lot of gardening books, but I'm getting ready to start Olive Kitteridge as soon as I get a free, quiet moment.

Barb Davis said...

Linda- I LOVE Jane Eyre. I will read it even again, I'm sure.

So far I've read:
The Appeal by John Grisham
A Place Called Waco by David Thibodeou (I don't think I spelled that last name correctly)
The Defining Moment by Jonathon Alter

I haven't decided what I'm going to read for the rest of the month yet.
