Riley's New Clothes

Hello again friends! Please come through
my Serenity Gate so we can sit and talk awhile.

Riley is barking again as you come in, but don't be alarmed, he just loves company.

He has two barks...one is a high-pitched bark that he uses for greeting friends and the other is his "bad boy" bark that he uses for the UPS and Postal men when they come to our door.

Yesterday, I told you about Riley wearing my t-shirt (see the last post) to protect his surgery boo-boo .

After writing my last blog post, I drove out to Walmart in search of a long sleeve boy's t-shirt. Since summer is almost here, and the winter clothes have been sold off, I could only find this little red one in size 4-5. I brought it home, laid it out on the table, cut off about 1/2 of each sleeve, then cut off 6 inches from the hem, and put it on Riley. The photo above is the result of my shopping trip and fashion experiment.

There was an immediate change in his attitude. He is so proud now and loves his new red shirt. He's been a happy boy ever since.

He's not licking or chewing the stitches on his leg and the incision is looking much better. I think we're on our way to recovery. (knock on wood!)

Cute shirt. He looks really sweet, and that should solve the problem. :)

Wow Riley, how smart you look in red! :D

Hi Barbara, It's a worry trying to prevent them from interfering with the stitches. When our Charlie was neutered many years ago, he licked his stitches and caused them to come out. We had to take him back to the vet and the vet stapled the wound back together with a staple gun! Hubby and I squirmed but Charlie didn't even flinch! lol That's when he had to wear his cone.... I couldn't bring myself to put panties on him! :O)

OH he's very handsome in his new shirt.

I'm glad that he is leaving his boo-boo alone now.

Dawn- Thank you!

Anita- I just couldn't put him through the embarrassment any longer. He really does LOVE his new shirt. He gets so excited when I bring something home for him to wear or play with.

What I'm seeing here is a new venture for you, Barbara ... Pet Fashion Designer! Look how happy his individualized threads made him! ;)

That was smart! And how clever of him to notice that he had the proper attire!

Riley definitely looks much happier with 'his' shirt.

Great solution and he looks precious in the shirt! I put t-shirts on Mondo during the winter because I keep my heat so low, its cold on the floors. He, too, seems really happy in them, strutting around. What a blessing to have these little guys for company isn't it?

What a handsome boy in your red shirt. You will all be happier.

Joanne- It turned out to be a successful experiment. He really loves it and doesn't want me to take if off.

Pat- Last night before going to bed, I dressed him again in my white t-shirt. He just lay in the floor, turned his head away from me as though he was disgusted, and wouldn't get on the bed. Sometime through the night, he decided he wasn't mad any longer and got in bed with Jim and I. He's so funny!

Astaryth- He is soooo much happier and smiles all the time now.

suZen- They can be just like little children. Riley is so smart and so sensitive. He's a wonderful companion to Jim and I.

Barb Davis said...

Lea- I'm glad you like the t-shirt. And yes, you're right...Riley AND I are both happier. I'm especially happy that I could help get him through his distress.

What a cute little dog. I do hope he soon recovers. It was very kind of you to go to so much trouble to make him feel comfortable.
Blessings, Star

It starts with one shirt...and before you know it, he'll want every colour of the rainbow. Beware! ;)

Barb Davis said...

Star- It makes me happy to care for him and help him back to health. Thank you for caring, too.

Barb Davis said...

Carmen- Yes, I'm already thinking he needs, perhaps, a blue one.

The red suits him to a T!!! Hope he's feeling better soon (and hope he gives the "friend" bark as I come tiptoeing through your Serenity Gate...)

Barb Davis said...

scb- I'm sure you'll get the "friend" bark...the "bad boy" bark is reserved for delivery people, etc.

Thanks for the comment on his red shirt, too.
