The Bachelor...Reality or Scam?

I try to keep this blog a place of serenity, but I'm going out on a thin limb this morning and talk about something I don't usually do here. I must confess that I watch the TV reality show, The Bachelor.

I want to know. Is anyone as upset as I am about last night's show? I really thought Jason was a decent man and I guess I was pretty naive about reality television. I can't believe how these people play with human emotions!

I don't know about you, but I AM NEVER GOING TO WATCH THIS SHOW AGAIN. THAT'S IT FOR ME....back to reading my books!!

***Tell me how you feel about what happened on the show and.....

Don't forget my giveaway that ends Sunday.

I watched this season of the Bachelor and I was a huge Melissa/Jason fan. Last night I was DISGUSTED!! For Jason to break up with Melissa that way and start making out with Molly 5 minutes later on National TV was more than distasteful. I, for one, am appalled.

I always thought that anyone desperate enough to go on National television to get a spouse is odd. And what I heard about last night takes the cake. Sad state of affairs, and this man has a child?

Becka- I think they'll do anything for ratings...I'm convinced of it.

Becca- I completely agree.

I've been watching, as have many of my office pals. You can guess what everyone's been talking about today!

It was mostly classy right up until the very unclassy, public boot given to Melissa. I secretly prayed that Molly would tell him, "Not on your life, you double-minded baby!!"

I hope they all find goodness and grace, but until they find it in the Lord they're not likely to find it on anything ABC serves up; nor am I.

I had stopped watching this show because it just seemed so scripted...just for ratings....but somehow this bachelor hooked me into watching again...last night...it made me wish I hadn't watched at all.

I've never watched the show, but do believe many of the "reality" shows are scripted for ratings. It would surprise me if they weren't.

I like reality shows but don't watch that one. It was on in the bedroom for a while and thought that was going on. My favorite is Amazing Race. Or American Idol once they get the final group chosen. Also watch Biggest Loser.

Unfortunately, there are too many wannabe actors that go on reality shows. Remember the "Dating Game"? Some of the contestants went on to be well known actors.
The only reality show that I still watch is "Survivor", and even there you can see the clever editing they do to produce more drama.

I didn't take the time to read through others' comments, so I hope not to repeat...

I was incredibly disappointed, and I agreed with Melissa that he wasn't even trying to uphold the promises he made. I get they hadn't married yet, and that he was trying to follow his heart, but it just came off like he's an impulsive and uncertain person who wants to jump around seeking the next thing to make him happy. I lost a lot of respect I'd had for him. I hope he and Molly DO discuss things thoroughly, and she's well informed in her decision whether to give him a second chance.

I'm appalled... absolutely... I feel like I've been manipulated and used... not just for one season, but for two... I gave Jason far too much credit. The message here was not a good one... it was full of the self-centered attitude of a three-year-old. Jason's son probably would have behaved better.

I am done with the Bachelor, these guys are a mess. But the writing has always been on the wall, why do nice looking, sucessful men, have to go on a dating show???? Because they are jerks, that's why! Jason his behind his kid, wanting us to think he was different....and guess what...he's not. Shame on me for falling for it...again!

I watched the show AGAIN last night and I'm still disgusted. I couldn't believe the audience seemed to embrace Jason, like nothing ever happened. I'm glad they're bringing Jillian back for the Bachelorette...I really liked her...classy lady, it seems anyway.

I'm busy today doing some paperwork. Yuck!!

Totally Disgusted.
1. How tacky to 'dump' Melissa on national TV.
2. Can't believe Molly was so eager to consider taking Jason back after she was not chosen.
3. Sick to death of the bachelor/ bachelorette always in love with so many people at once. Ya right.
4. None of them stay together. Molly beware. If she is smart...she will run not walk away from this man.
5. How can Jason be so concerned about his son Ty when he introduces one woman and then inserts another????
Maybe we should have had an episode where they consulted with the Ex-wife. I am sure she could have shed some light on the situation! Poor Jason. Getting hurt all the time. I say kick him to the curb and keep on walking. Melissa is the lucky one

I watched that show once or twice and thought it was pure soap opera drama. Never watched it again. In fact I almost never watch TV at all.

Everyone- I'm really loving your comments. I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of these people (Jason and his ladies)!

Barbara, I had to come back and tell you I read an article yesterday (by a reputable source). It said the network producers suggested the flip-flopping to Jason - to help with ratings since the show has lost some bang in recent seasons - and that Jason agreed. I don't know what to believe anymore, but the article also said Jason strung Melissa along (neither woman was in on it), and secretly saw Molly ever other weekend until the "break up" with Melissa. *sigh*

Barb Davis said...

Janna- I read that, too, and if it's true, it's sick!! I think they are now trying to "cover their tracks."

EVERYONE- Thanks for all of your feedback and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on this.

Anyone who believes anything they see or hear on TV is delusional. Hyperreality is an image that relates to nothing in reality. That's what you have in "reality" TV. There is no "reality" being refered to, only the illusion is real. Just a copy of an imitation dream world.
