Memories With KFC

Jim and I are going to Linda and Mike's next weekend, and since they're expecting snow, Jim had to put the snow tires on the car this afternoon. I hope it does snow while we're there, because we don't get much here it the valley and I love SNOW!!!

After the tires were on, we decided to go out to lunch at KFC. We hadn't been there in over a year, so it was a bit of a treat. Yum!! We usually go out several times a week, but somehow we always forget about Kentucky Fried Chicken.

As we sat in the restaurant, it brought back memories of when the children were little, and how we would all go to KFC with friends after church. We were an Air Force family, so we've eaten fried chicken all over the USA.

I would also eat at a fantastic KFC, several years ago, while visiting my mother in East Tennessee. It served everything buffet style--pinto beans, green beans, turnip greens, yams, mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken livers, cold slaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, and of course, fried chicken. They served much of the same food I was raised on and it was wonderful.

In the KFC here, we have only the basics--not that good, rich, southern fare that I so love and crave. But Jim and I did have a good time talking about the good old days and fried chicken memories.

I guess our most frequented place when the boys were growing up was McDonalds or Taco Bell. Actually, I can hardly go in a McDonalds now but I think some of my grandkids are growing up with the same kind of memories--at McDonalds. Some things never change!

Mmmm! Snow! I would like to see some--briefly!

Wow! It's supposed to snow up here?? I didn't even hear that, and I live here!! But I believe it. The Farmer's Alamanac said we're going to get a lot of snow at the beginning of winter, then less at the end. KFC sounds good tonight.

Love snow, especially the early snow. We like to go to different ice cream shoppes. There's nothing like sitting and talking over a hot fudge sundae (extra fudge, please!) and a hot coffee!

Joanne- Lots of ice cream shops in my past, too. Especially "31 Flavors." Yummy!!!

We have so so much good food here in Baton Rouge, it's hard to pick just one. I'd say my favorite place to talk over memories and visit is anywhere that has big tables (there's usually a bunch of us) to fit lotsa family & friends.

Angie- I love big long tables with lots of family and friends eating, laughing, and sharing memories together. What's better than that?

My favorite place to eat was at our family picnics at home where lobster, clams, potato salad, corn on the cob and watermelon were served. We had so many relatives and friends over on the summer holidays that my father had to cook outside in clean, new metal trash cans! We swam, played killer badmitton and volleyball and shared laughter and our lives.

I have lots of favorites to eat at nowadays, but I have many wonderful memories associated with Golden Corral, the buffet-style restaurant. When I was growing up, our family of four went every Wednesday (Dad's payday) for dinner. The food was that down-home delicious kind, but the time it gave us and the memories it formed were even better.

Janna- Jim and I LOVE Golden Corral. It's one of our very favorites!!!!

Snow?? Ugh!!
Our first resturant--take out only in our town as Colonel Sanders:) I loved the buckets of mashed potatoes and rolls.
But my favorite memory is eating in Newberry's with my mother on her lunchhour getting milkshakes and fries.

Terri- That's a terrific memory!!
