Hello friends!
As most of you probably remember, last summer I took up biking after years of not even touching one. That was a real experience--the fear of falling, learning to balance again, and adjusting to stopping with hand-brakes. But I continued to practice and by the end of summer was riding pretty well for an old gal.
Well....last evening Jim and I were doing a little Christmas shopping at our son's store (he's the manager) and right there beside the front window was the bike of my dreams!
Oh...my... gosh!! I just had to have it!!!! This was the Christmas presents of ALL CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!!!!! Just what I wanted--a Barbie Pink beach cruiser-- a bike with no gears or handbrakes. They're like the old fashioned kind I had when I was young, but a little more sophisticated in color and style. You don't use your hands to stop it--you use the pedals. Just my speed!!!! I hear they're very popular now in California.
Son, Matt, took the bike out of the window for me and said I could ride it around the store. That was nice of him, but no thanks, for Pete's sake! Can't you just see the spectacle? Well, we compromised and I sat on it to see if the height was right. No, the seat was too tall. Matt adjusted it. Now would I ride it around the store? NO THANKS, AGAIN.
Jim could see that "my inner child" WANTED THAT BIKE and agreed it would be my early Christmas present. Matt put a SOLD sign on it and Jim will come with his truck and pick it up today.
A new bike for Christmas!! Haven't had that happen since I was a little girl.
Speaking of childhood gifts...what's the gift that stands out most in your "childhood memory?"
***Don't forget. The drawing for the new scarf is this afternoon. Leave a comment to enter.

I am waiting with great anticipation!
Woohoo, girl! What a fab present. (It looks just like my bike, but mine's red.) :)
Stop by and vote in my Christmas contest if you get a chance. http://angie-ledbetter.blogspot.com/
That is just too cool! I love the bike. AND I think it is great that your 'inner child' got the present of -her- dreams! LOL!
Can't wait to see a picture of you out on the biking trails in the Spring!
Pat- In just a few hours the name will be drawn!!!
Angie- I'll be at your place in a couple of minutes.
astaryth- Yep, that inner child is always there. Sometimes we need to listen.
Willa Fae- Wish you could take that first ride with me!
They call those "beach cruisers". I grew up with them at my grandma and grandpa's house in San Diego--though their's weren't pink. They let us kids spray paint them. We'd ride or push them to the top of Iroquois Way and coast all the way down--my brother Jimmy and me mostly. They're my favorite bikes.
Hi!
I've been longing for a bike myself. I'd like it to be a Schwinn (do they still make those?) like I had when I was a little girl (late 1950s) Powder blue. Yum! I'd like to see a pic of lots of mid-life (ok, late life) ladies on bikes wearing scarves and Jackie O sunglasses. Wanna join me?
How exciting! Make sure you post a picture with you atop it, 'k? ;)
A bike, how wonderful. And I would like no hand brakes or anything complicated. My favorite present was when I was seven. Guess what it was - a horse. My first real one.
Linda- I think the old bikes are the best. They aren't so mentally challenging.
Janice- I love the sunglasses and scarf idea!
Lea- How did I know a horse would be your favorite? Wishing you many more!!
Janna- I hope to post one first thing next Spring. Keep watching.
