A New Gadget
I have a new favorite kitchen gadget....it's a microwave bacon rack, purchased at Walmart.
Now before you say anything, I know most of you probably have had one of these for years, but I seem to try out gadgets a little later than most people.
Anyway, I love bacon (I know that's not a good thing) and have always stood over a hot skillet frying and turning for what seemed forever--grease popping everywhere, especially on me. Then after the bacon was cooked and consumed, I would have the unhappy job of cleaning the stove and pans. What a greasy mess!!
A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy a microwavable bacon rack and try it out. I couldn't believe the bacon would be as delicious as that fried in a skillet, but to my surprise, not only was it as good, but it was so much easier and faster. Now I'm hooked for good. I even went back to Walmart and bought two more. I figure having several will save time when we have company for breakfast.
Now it's so convenient to take a few slices out of the package, place them on the tray, cover them with a paper towel, pop them in the microwave for three minutes and have my bacon! I will never be able to live without my microwave rack.
***Do you have a favorite kitchen gadget or small appliance that you cannot live without?

Along with my bacon rack, I also love my iced tea maker.
I love my Pampered Chef chopper, and use it for so many things - even mashing bananas for bread. Couldn't do without my toaster, either - my girls love frozen waffles every morning. :)
I've been buying the microwavable bacon, anyway, because I like it better (and I'm lazy in the ways of the bacon). I'll try this! It would save money, I bet.
Try the little rack too. You hang the bacon off it.
Hmm, fav. gadget would have to be the BBQ pit b/c it means the Dad is cooking. LOL
Have you ever tried cooking bacon in the oven? I saw the suggestion once on a package, and have been doing it that way ever since. But now will def try your microwave bacon rack too. Favorite kitchen gadget? My 4-cup Mr. Coffee coffee maker :)
I love cooking bacon in the microwave!! I won't do it any other way.
Have fun with your new gadget. I am jealous:)
Janna- I'm going to check out that chopper.
Angie- I saw the little rack and wondered how that would work.
Joanne- I've heard of cooking bacon in the over, but I was afraid it would be too messy. Is it messy?
Tileena- Do you have one of these little racks (plates)?
I love my Country Kettle. It's electric, great for making soups, but you can also fry up some chicken in it and it browns pretty nicely. Westbend makes them. Well I guess they still make them, I've had mine for years, but it's the third one I've had. Had one of the bacon trays when they first came out, they're ok, but I'm still the old kind of person, that likes to fry it on the stove. Some friends in Canada showed Abe how to fix bacon, by putting it in a brown paper sack, and putting the sack in the oven. He said it worked, he spent a few days with them years ago. I've never tried it. Our one daughter covers the skillet with a lid, she said it keeps from getting the stove a mess but it still browns, I've only tried it once, I have a small skillet with a glass lid, that way I could keep a check on it, and it did ok.
Thanks for stopping by, I've stopped here at your blog many times, but I ahve never left a comment before, at least I don't think I have. Well let's face it, at 72, sometimes I can't remember what I'm doing or where I've been. LOL
Patty- Thanks for dropping by and offering all the good suggestions. I enjoyed our little visit.
Oh...let me think...my husband *LAUGHING!!!* he does most of the cooking ...teehee.
Kathryn- Well, now, how did you manage that one? *happy face*
Love it!
Thanks for entering my contest! Stop on over and vote on your fave PURPLISCIOUS find!!!! There's some crazzzy purple out there! Hurry though - ends tomorrow!!!!!
Jodi- Thanks for stopping by!!
I do not have one, but my grandma does, and I always that it was pretty nifty.
I get by with a regular old plate and a gob of paper towels. I have system to it all where I fold all the edges under of the paper towels, and this way the grease doesn't drip all over the microwave:) and maybe it soaks up the grease more?
Tileena- We'll make sure you get one!! *smiling*
