She's An Eagle When She Flies

I was listening to a number of songs by various artists tonight and came across this one, written by Dolly Parton (below). The older I get, the more supportive and appreciative I am of strong, yet compassionate women (see black insert at right), so this one by Dolly, was especially meaningful to me. I want to share it with you. Maybe we can all take something important from it. What will you take?

She's An Eagle When She Flies

She's been there, God knows, she's been there...
She has seen and done it all.
She's a woman... she knows how to
Dish it out or take it all.
Her heart's as soft as feathers, still she weathers stormy skies,
And she's a sparrow when she's broken,
But she's an eagle when she flies.
A kaleidoscope of colors....
You can toss her around and round,
You can keep her in your vision,
But you'll never keep her down.
She's a lover, she's a mother,
She's a friend and she's a wife....
And she's a sparrow when she's broken
But she's an eagle when she flies.
Gentle as the sweet magnolia
Strong as steel-- her faith and pride.
She's an everlasting shoulder,
She's the leaning post of life.
She hurts deep and when she weeps
She's just as fragile as a child,
And she's a sparrow when she's broken
But she's an eagle when she flies.
She's a sparrow when she's broken,
But she's an eagle when she flies.
Oh, bless her, Lord.
She's an eagle when she flies.
-Dolly Parton

Oh yes, this is a beautiful song. I have always loved it - thank you for sharing it here! Also, I love the Christmas graphic you've added to your blog - it's warm and inviting and cozy! (Actually it makes me want to grab a book, a cup of cocoa and a blankie and curl up to read!)

I love Dolly Parton!

And yet I really don't like Country Music... figure that one out. :)

Thanks for sharing!

Avily- So glad we agreed. Dolly seems to be a sweet person and talented writer. And...she's from my "neck of the woods." I think that makes her even more special to me.

Blessings.

That song brings memories back to me. It was sung at my mothers funeral and on the back of her headstone it says - Shes's and eagle when she flies. Thank you for putting the words up. Love it and am going to remember to put it on my MP3 player.

Good Evening, I have just stopped by your journal for the first time.
I need more time in the day as there are so many great words written by the contributors.
I spend every summer holiday in our trailer camped at Coeur D' Alene. The place where the amusement park was is now a beautiful 4 star resort.
Blessings of the seasons. Stop by and say hello sometime.
