An Interval Of Rest

Hello Everyone!
I'm back from my brief blogland intermission and I highly recommend it to everyone.

After a busy holiday season, my body and spirit said "a quiet interlude" was needed. With the winter winds howling outside and at least six inches of snow on the ground, what better time to settle down beside a cozy fire with a few good books.

For the last few days I was able to finish several books I had started reading.

1. The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman
2. 500 Great Books By Women (A Reader's Guide)
3. The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Gracia
4. Classics For Pleasure by Michael Dirda
5. Book Of Everyday Wisdom by The Delany Sisters
6. The Little Black Dress Diet by Michail Van Straten

As you can see, I read all sorts of things. I suppose I've never seen a book I didn't like, in one way or another.

How nice it is to take a needed break from time to time and enjoy the little pleasantries of life.

***If you had a day completely to yourself, how would you spend it?

Wow! Great for you. :) Six books!

If I could have a whole day to myself, I'd start off with online play and writing in the morning, head out for lunch and some shopping, and then return home for reading and/or a movie. Heaven!

Janna- Go for it!! Make it happen!!

Welcome back, it's nice to take some time off. I'm curious about what you thought of Hoffman's The Ice Queen? I loved it, and wonder if it struck you the same way.

Joanne- I remember you saying awhile back that you read it. I believe you said it was one of your favorites, so I ordered it from a used bookseller off of Amazon.

I loved it, too, and now want to read more by the author. In fact, I've ordered a couple and will let you know more about them later.

Thanks for drawing my attention to The Ice Queen. What a good read! I highly recommend it to all my readers.

Angie- Yes, it sure feels good to make a little time for ourselves now and then.

Time out is my favorite thing to do. I almost wish we'd have one (notice I said one!) snow day here in Florida so I'd have an excuse to crawl under the covers with a hot cup of peppermint tea and read one of the books you recommended!

Glad you're back!
Look forward to enjoying your wonderful blog again!

I'm so glad you liked it, it's nice to know a book you recommend is enjoyed. If her others that you ordered are as good, be sure to let us know!

Donna- Hope you've had the peppermint tea today. Don't wait for bad weather. Take lots of daily breaks. Enjoy!

Joanne- I'll let you know.

Glad you enjoyed your break. It sounds like you have a little snow down there--just the right amount. It definitely slows life down when you're snowed in.

Barb Davis said...

Linda- Enjoying the snow since we usually get so little of it here in the valley.

Welcome back Barbara. It depends on the time of year. If its icky weather I would just curl up in my chair with a book. Just about any. Books and I are best friends. Have been since I was quite young. Was reading long before I started school. I had an aunt who gave me books for every occasion possible. That was my start. It it was a nice day, I would get on my horse and go for a quiet ride, maybe take my camera and see what we saw. May stop and sit quietly and listen to nature sounds.

Lea- You and I must be kindred spirits.

Gosh, how would I spend it? A day all to myself...

I want to go hiking - yes, I know that sounds all ...healthy or something (laugh) - but, here in the Smoky Mountains it's a pleasure, really - and you can find hiking that isn't strenuous if you just want to walk and feel the ancient earth underneath your feet.

Love the blog - beautiful colors.

Kathryn- The Smokey Mountains? My favorite place in all the world! I was born an raised in their foothills. Heaven on earth. Enjoy them and think of me.
